The metric: Average agency caregiver growth since August 2024

How we measure it: For each agency in our data set, we look at how the number of caregivers has increased or decreased since August 2024. We then average that rate of change across all agencies and look at it on a monthly basis.

Why we measure it: We think it’s important to understand caregiver growth trends to assess the overall health of the workforce and identify periods of expansion or decline. Tracking this metric helps agencies and industry leaders recognize where and when growth is happening, identify potential challenges in caregiver recruitment and retention, and develop strategies to sustain a stable and growing caregiver workforce.

💡This month’s takeaway: Following two months of strong caregiver growth, 1.3% in February and 1.9% in March, April and May marked a slowdown in momentum. April’s growth tapered down to 0.7%, and May further declined to 0.5%. While still positive, the reduced pace suggests potential saturation or challenges in sustaining recruitment efforts. Agencies may need to revisit outreach strategies to maintain growth in the coming months.
